This project was for the repair and part conversion of a Grade 2* listed oak framed barn and pig rearing pen building, together with a new build 5 bedroom house - all to form a single large dwelling around a courtyard.
A condition of the planning permission stated the existing buildings were to be fully repaired before any work could start on the new build 'enabling' house.
The new house was designed to closely resemble a former traditional farm building externally, while inside a contrasting 'modern' aesthetic gradually reveals the existing historic fabric as one moves through the house, culminating in the magnificent oak framed barn itself.
The house was highly insulated and featured underfloor heating throughout, and a whole house ducted heat recovery & ventilation system. Rainwater harvesting was also incorporated to reduce mains water consumption.
